OneRooftop’s integration with Rental Guardian is now disabled, meaning damage coverage will no longer be automated. If you were previously using this service, you should have already been notified of the next steps moving forward, but if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to send us an email at support@onerooftop.com
To ensure that your property is covered for incidental damages going forward, you have three options:
1. Choose another third-party platform and manually open coverage there. Please note that Rental Guardian is still an option for you, but you will need to sign up for an account with them directly and open coverage for each guest within their platform. There are several providers available, but we have listed a few below to get you started.
In order to charge the guest for coverage, you will need to add a corresponding fee in your property settings.
2. Self insure. This option can be a little risky but is also commonly practiced. In this case, you would not open coverage through a third-party carrier, rather, you would collect a non-refundable “damage protection” fee from your guests and pay out of pocket for any damages that occur.
3. Security deposit. Collect a larger amount with the reservation total that is refundable upon checkout. You can withhold the cost of any damages by issuing a partial refund.
Steps on how to add a Security Deposit Fee:
- Go to the Properties tab -> Choose the property
- Click Rates
- Click Add Tax/Fee
A pop-up box will appear. On the pop-up box, you will be able to set up the amount and how you wish to charge the Fee on the reservation.
Example:
On the reservation, the fee will reflect under Rates & Fees. How you set the fee will reflect under Taxable Fees or Non-taxable Fees.
Here is an example of a receipt with a Fee added:
